Just because the nights are getting darker, doesn't mean the shooting has to stop!

Here at Reid Outdoors we're so passionate about shooting that we don't let the dark nights stop us getting out there. In this weeks blog we're going to discuss hunting at night. Tips & Tactics Hunting at night can bring an abundance of rewards, as more animals make their way out into the open under the cover of darkness. This is a great time to see Rabbits and Rats moving further away from their nests and warrens.  We suggest moving along the sides of the fields near where the nests/warrens are to block their escape. Move out from here scanning the field with a lamp. If you see anything you could take a free shoot, but we fins it's better to get into a kneeling stance , this way you're on their level and more hidden. One thing to keep in mind at night is that the dim light can make the targets seem further away than they are, so you'll need to take this into account before firing. Although you're going to see more rabbits in fields, if

Even in the cold you can still get a nibble!

Just because the days are getting shorter and colder it doesn't mean that you have to back away your bait and rods, there is still fish to catch. We're so passionate about fishing that we like to get out there every season, so in this weeks blog we're going to talk about what's still swimming in our seas. As the weather hasn't gotten to cold yet, there will still be some of the summer fish to be had, especially on the southern coast. You may still be lucky enough to hook some mackerel, thornback ray and large bass and pollock. As autumn moves closer to winter you are more likely to see whiting and flatfish such as flounder and dab. Thornback Ray As we move into the new year and the water gets colder then the cod fishing becomes more abundant, although be wary of the smaller cod as they have a habit of  stealing the bait and becoming a nuisance. If you're brave enough to venture out on the coldest of days then it could be extremely rewarding,

The days of shooting being just a male pursuit are over as more and more women take up the sport. We love the sport so much here at Reid Outdoors that we think everyone no mater the age, sex or ability should be encouraged to get involved . So in this weeks blog we will discuss the many options for women to get involved. You don't have to live in the country to get involved in shooting there are many clubs in towns & cities, plus weekend trips to the countryside so don't let location put you off. There are things to consider before you start. Would you like to shoot clays , game or both. Clay shooting is mainly done through clubs with their own grounds and traps and if you live in towns or have a limited amount of time to shoot this could be the choice for you.  Game shooting refers mostly to Hares, pheasants, partridges and grouse . This kind of shooting takes place more in the country on managed land, but can lead to some lovely wild meat on you
