Watching the birds go by!

Here at Reid Outdoors we love a bit of twitching and we know that we're not the only ones so in today's blog we thought that we'd let all our fellow Twitchers what birds to look out for over the coming months.

The Wood Sandpiper is a special find, again based in Scotland they originally arrive in these isles in May , but then return in July. They are very shy, but one feature to look out for is their paler underwings, that distinguish them from darker Green Sandpiper.

BLACK GUILLEMOT

Black Guillemot Breeding adult

The jet black colouring, with white wing ovals make the Black Guillemot one of the most striking sea birds. You'll find them nesting among boulders and on cliff edges on the north & west coast, but to see them in their largest, most magnificent numbers you'll need to go to Shetland or Orkney.

SPOTTED FLYCATCHER

Bird, Spotted Flycatcher, Flycatcher, Muscicapa

One of the most elegant birds to grace the summer skies, the Spotted Flycatcher is one of the last of birds to arrive. With their love of snapping up flying insects you will find them in more mature gardens, open woodland and surprisingly some cemeteries.

We hope that you catch sight of one of these magnificent birds over the next month or so. If your thinking of getting out there why not check out our bird watching section in store now.
