A great day for those hard working beaters!

Beaters' Day is coming!


After months of scrambling through trees, bushes and hedgerow, wading through mud and ice beaters get to the end of the season and the arrival of the long-awaited beaters’ day. Traditionally, it was the day that the estate owner gave to his gamekeeper to invite his friends along to shoot. It has changed over the years and the keepers’ day is now more often referred to as the beaters’ day.

It’s a great day to reward all the hard work that the beaters’ do all throughout the shooting season. A day where Legends may be forged, reputations might be left in tatters, but one thing is for sure: there will be men, ladies, boys and girls stood with a gun in their hands who have waited for the opportunity since the start of the season. They've earned it.

Delicious recipes to make the most of your pigeon shoot!

Pigeon Shooting Season is here! Pigeon shooting season is upon us again and we here at Reid Outdoors   are hoping that your shooting days go so well that you have an abundance of birds. So we've put together a selection of our favourite recipes to help you get the most from your rewards. Pigeon & Beetroot Salad This is one our favourite recipes on the BBC Good Food website. The game, fruit and beetroot really compliment each other. Ingredients: 1 tbsp  olive oil 1 garlic clove 1 rosemary Sprig 4 pigeon breasts 100g bag washed watercress 1 eating apple 4 cooked beetroots (not in vinegar) 100g toasted roughly chopped hazelnuts For the dressing 1 tsbp balsamic vinegar 3 tsbp olive oil Method Make the dressing by mixing the balsamic and olive oil together. Target shooting is a great sport for everyone, men, women, children and the physically challenged. It covers three disciplines including shotgun, pistol and rifle.   Now shooting clubs are going the extra mile to make sure that the sport is becoming accessible to all, with acoustic shooting being one of the newest ways. Acoustic Shooting Acoustic shooting uses specially adapted rifles fitted with special sights, which measure the level of light reflected from a target.
